Like Mom and Dad

It was Saturday. Dad would be talking about his sermon for the weekend. “I need to go work on my sermon,” he would say. Naively, we would ask, didn’t he have it written already? “It’s all up here,” he would say, tapping his head. “I’ve been thinking about what I want to say.”

This morning, I’m working on a guest post for Gianna of Sweet Peas & Buddies. My deadline is today. Yikes! Not to worry, Gi, (picture me tapping my head) I’ve been thinking about it for a while and I’ll send it out later today! Both the girls are at school, and the house is quiet at last!

Another new project I have undertaken is quilting. I have just started sewing, and have always wanted to try quilting. My mom was a wonderful quilter. We have several of her quilts that we snuggle under all the time. Seriously, if I wasn’t under a deadline, I’d run upstairs and take a picture of the last quilt my mom made for Emmy. But that will have to wait.

Instead, I’ll show you the quilt squares I made last week. I’m taking this amazing free course at Craftsy.com, and I’m learning so much! On the top left is the Asterisk block, and next to it is the Wonky Pound Sign block. On the bottom left is the Balkan Puzzle Block. Hopefully this week, I’ll fill in that empty spot with the Chunky Chevron block!

What are some of your projects this week?

Look for that guest post next Wednesday!

  1. I've never been much of a sewer and I envy those who can. Good for you for tackling quilting. The squares look great! Good luck filling in the empty space and then possibly completing a quilt! My project this week is getting ready for a long put off remodeling project about to begin next week. Who knew there was so much stuff to move from my family room into my living room? Still gotta clean out kitchen cupboards. I keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end.

    1. Oh, it will be worth it in the end! But the preparations for such a big project seem impossible at first, don't they? Thanks for the encouragement…with the class I'm taking, I'm supposed to have a finished quilt by the end of the year. Yay!

  2. I used to quilt all the time back when I was in my 20s. Now that I'm old, I'm always on the computer. Doesn't that seem backwards? Up in the attic, I have a bag with a half-pieced double wedding ring quilt that my mother started. I am determined that I will finish it for her eventually. Maybe I'll get around to it for a wedding gift for Jude!

  3. Those blocks are all gorgeous. My aunt made me a quilt when I went off to college 10 years ago and I still use it…it's fantastic! My project for today is just to cook. My grandparents have requested some food this weekend so I am trying to make it all today LOL

  4. Oh my gosh! I could just kiss you for that link to the free quilting course! I've tried in the past (doll blankets when my daughter was small) and they always turned out…wonky. I was just at Michael's looking at their list of classes hoping that they'd have one on quilting soon, but they didn't have one. I do knit and crochet, though. I just finished my first afghan. Isn't it nice to think that someday our kids and grandkids will snuggle up under things *we've* made?

  5. Awww what a great Dad Ginny! I also do alot of thinking before I write..ALOT! HA! Love your quilt squares..great job! I don't really have patience for quilting:( Unless I am doing a project with friends and we can chit chat while doing it:) You probably never guessed that about me:) LOL_Blessings!
