Memorial Day weekend really started to feel like summer! The weather was warm and we did summery things. Since summer is just about here, Lisa and Rabia, hostesses of Tuesday Ten want to know what our bucket list is for the summer!
10. Plant a butterfly garden. We have an empty space where our willow tree used to be. Last fall, when we had to have our willow tree taken down, I promised the girls we would plant a butterfly garden. I already have a few plants in place, but there’s a lot more work left to be done!
9. Use our backyard more. We have such a great back yard, but we neglect it in the summer when we should be outside playing! This goes along with our butterfly garden. If our backyard is prettier, maybe we’ll want to spend more time back there.
8. Build a raised garden bed. Now that we have more sun shining in our back yard, I want to try to grow some tomatoes and peppers. We went to Home Depot yesterday, and got a great deal on a raised garden bed kit! The packaging had been damaged and some pieces are missing, but we can still use the pieces to make the garden bed I want. They gave us a great discount!
7. Read, read, read! One of the things I love most about summer is the extra time to read! I can’t wait to dive into a good novel! First on my list is a book my aunt loaned to my step-mom who then loaned it to me: The Snow Child, by Eowyn Ivey. It takes place in Alaska, one of my favorite places. I can’t wait to crack open this novel to the first page and dive in!
6. Walk every day. I really need to exercise! I was doing so well for a while, but then…life happened. I need to get back out there!
5. Go to the pool. Every year, we get a pool pass for the summer. I’m looking forward to sitting by the pool again!
4. Use sun block more diligently. Going to the pool means getting a lot of sun…I really want to take better care of my skin this summer.
3. I don’t want to forget my husband’s birthday. Yes, I really did forget his birthday once. We were at a big family reunion in Colorado. I just got so caught up in all our activities, seeing my family, and taking care of Lily and Emmy that I completely forgot it was his birthday! As we were signing the waiver for zip-lining, Ed kept looking at me as I was writing the date to see if I would remember. I felt so awful when I finally realized what day it was–June 17! I’ve tried to make up for my ditzyness since then, but I’m not sure I’ve succeeded!
2. See my sisters and my brother. We don’t see each other as often as we should!
1. Spend time with my daughters when school lets out of for the summer. I love being with them!

I think I have had that book in my hands several times. Please read it and tell me whether I should! I’ve got so many books still to read and so many to reread, I will be busy all summer. And that’s not even counting the other things I will need to keep up with like the garden, the house and myself.

I will let you know if it’s good! I still have to teach for two more weeks, and then I’ll have time to start reading. 🙂
Aww, love your list and as for forgetting my husband’s birthday, I can’t ever because he talks about it as soon as it hits May 1st everyday until the actual day (May 12th). So, here is his my calendar reminder for days learning up to it, lol!! 🙂

Your husband is so cute! Now, if only my husband would have done that, I wouldn’t have forgotten it in the first place! Do you think I can blame it all on him? LOL!
You can totally try to blame it on him, lol!! Kevin is totally a big kid with birthdays and gets such a charge out of his daily reminders. He does it more for the girls, but still makes me smile 🙂

I love the list! I forgot our anniversary once years ago and my husband still reminds of that oops. You are so lucky that you can spend the summer with your kids.

I am pretty lucky! Even when the kids are driving me crazy, I’m glad I get to be with them. 🙂

Great list! I definitely need to put exercise o my list, too. Like you said, I try, but life happens. I love the idea of the butterfly garden. We have a butterfly bush in our backyard, but a whole grade would be lovely!

Sounds like you’ve got an awesome summer planned! I wish we had more chances to go swimming, but life just didn’t deal us those cards. Sprinkler fun works for us!

My kids love the sprinkler, too! We are fortunate to have a great public pool just down the street from us. 🙂

What a fun list. A pool pass is on ours for this year. I’m sure we’ll get our monies worth. I’d also love to learn to cook over a fire with my Dutch oven. It’s on my list!

I don’t have a Dutch oven! That sounds fun! You’ll have to blog about it! 😉

I just put The Snow Child on hold at my library! I can’t wait!
And a butterfly garden – what a fabulous idea. We actually have a kit and you have to mail away for the larvae or whatnot. Strange, but probably fun.

I used to raise caterpillars in my second grade classroom. It’s very easy and fun! We got the caterpillars in the mail. Now that was a fun package to get!

I’ve seen a lot of beach wishes on lists and I would love to go as much as possible but I think deep down I am more of a pool gal. Less sand and calmer water 😀 Great picks and I would love to see how that butterfly garden comes along…sounds like such fun!

We’re only 11 miles from a beach on Lake Michigan, but we never actually go there! I think we would have to pay to use it since it’s on the North Shore. Maybe that should be on our bucket list? The pool is definitely easier!

Your summer bucket list sounds great, especially the butterfly garden. Can’t wait to see it! There are several things on your list that could be on mine too… use the backyard more, a garden bed and walking.
