Random Tuesday Thoughts: Reprise

It became apparent to me last week that quite a few people don’t like the Wiggles. Why, I ask you, why? (This is a “rhetorical question.” Please don’t comment with an essay about why you dislike Greg, Anthony, Jeff, and, um, what’s his name? Oh, I remember…Murray.) They are only preschool teachers in disquise. Perhaps I like them because I am an elementary school teacher myself.

Would you rather have me post a video of Elmo? How about the TeleTubbies? Or perhaps…BARNEY??? WOULD YOU?

I would never do that to you, faithful readers.

Instead, here is a video of Lily and Emmy, dancing to “The Monkey Dance”. Yes, it is the Wiggles, but you will never actually see them. Instead, you will see my awesome cinematographic skills; my use of a messy kitchen as a backdrop, my creative lighting, (the sun was shining in the windows, causing the girls to look like they don’t have noses), and realistic tiger growls. It was yellow day at preschool, so Lily wanted to wear her new spring outfit, and of course Emmy wanted to wear her matching outfit. And what would dancing be without…tap shoes?

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Tail! Tail!

So I fed my niece breakfast this morning at 6:00, my nephew doesn’t even eat breakfast, and I haven’t seen hide nor hair of them since 7:00 a.m. As I write this, it is now 8:17 p.m. This babysitting gig is a pretty easy one, if you ask me. (Unless they don’t show up at 9:00 tonight like they are supposed to; then we’re up shit creek.)

Emmy’s favorite song right now is “Tail! Tail!” At least that’s how she says it. It took me forever to figure out that she is saying “Potato! Potato!” She’s talking about “Hot Potato” by the Wiggles. Every morning while I am in the shower, Emmy dances to the CD in my bedroom.

When we were in Iowa visiting my parents, I made a mistake. I forgot to bring this CD along AND I didn’t have it on my MP3 player, like I thought. So she kept requesting “TAIL! TAIL!” and no other song would do.

I got online and found the video for her, so she could dance to her little heart’s content.

Once my children are old enough to read, however, they will never be allowed on YouTube. Have you seen some of the comments people write? On children’s videos? They would make a sailor blush, and I don’t mean Captain Feathersword. I didn’t let Lily watch videos on her own; I was too scared. One of the videos she clicked looked like Dora and Boots were going places we didn’t want to go, and I grabbed that mouse and clicked right out of there like a rabid fox.

I just wrote a terrible simile, didn’t I? Or is it a metaphor? Do you care?

Nephew just called and asked if coming over at 9:15 or 9:30 would be OK. 9:45 anyone? Hey, at least he called. “Sure,” I said, super cool aunt that I am. Ha!
