NOT What You Think About in Spring

It’s finally Spring! When I asked people what they thought about when they heard the word “Spring” a couple of weeks ago, I got a lot of fun answers. Bounce, flowers, warm, hurry and PLEASE were just a few of the answers. One answer I did NOT get was…the stomach flu.

Easter Sunday, our household was hit by that terrible germ. Only Lily got sick, but boy oh boy, did she get sick. I knew she wasn’t feeling well when she wanted to go upstairs and lie down. At 4:00 in the afternoon! That is not like my Lily at all, especially since we had the family over for Easter dinner! Not long after she decided to rest, she came down to get me. “Mommy, I just threw up two times.”

Oh, my, not the words I wanted to hear as I was preparing food for 10 people! Being eight years old, however, she did make it to the bathroom on time. Ed stayed up in her room with her, reading and consoling her, while I carried on below. She was up quite a few times that night, and her stomach didn’t settle until Tuesday morning.

Fortunately, this bout of tummy trouble didn’t happen until AFTER Lily had some Easter fun. On Saturday, the girls went with Ed to our church’s Easter Egg Hunt, and they came home with their baskets OVERFLOWING with eggs.

Another blessing: it’s Friday, Lily is back to her normal happy and healthy self, and NO ONE else has gotten sick. I’m crossing my fingers and knocking on wood!

How has your Spring been so far?

  1. Oh no! Poor you. Poor Lily. And beware! Sometimes these things linger and the rest of the family doesn't get it for a week or so. Did I ever mention the time I Typhoid Maryed the entire family? Jude had it. Then a week went by and nothing – we thought we'd dodged the bullet. We hosted a huge family gathering. The next morning I woke up throwing up. Over the next week, Jimmy got it as well as all TWELVE of the cousins and Jimmy's brother and sister-in-law. Horrible!

  2. I'm so glad to hear that Lily's doing much better now, and that she did get to go on an Easter egg hunt before she got sick. I don't know about your neck of the woods, but the temps keep going up and down here — so annoying. I can't wait to plant pansies in our flower boxes, but they're fairly hardy in this type of weather.

  3. What an awesome Easter Bunny….cute pictures! Sorry Lily didn't feel well. I'm surprised at the people I've been reading who had a stomach bug during Easter. Glad she is better now. Enjoy your weekend.

  4. I am so glad she was able to enjoy some of the events. I think JDaniel is the only one in his class to not have it.

  5. Glad to hear she is better. I hope the stomach bug has left your house for good. It is definitely an unwelcome guest in spring. Hopefully it will be warm enough this weekend to throw open the windows and air out the house! That is my only goal this weekend. – Sharon

  6. Glad to hear Lily is better and that she was able to enjoy a little bit of Easter. That is a cute Easter bunny! Sometimes they look kind of creepy. lol. Our spring… we keep getting teasers of warmer weather. It is snowing here today. 😛
