It’s 9:30 p.m. on a Sunday night, and I’ve just finished watching Dr. Who with my husband and a glass of wine. The last thing I want to do is write a blog post! But here I am, only three days away from completing NaBloPoMo, and I can’t stop now! Oh, and yes, somewhere in my archives is another “Odds ‘n Ends” post.

Did you know that lawnmower repair shops have stopped repairing lawnmowers? Ed’s lawn mower stopped working last weekend, when he was in the middle of picking up the last of the fallen leaves with our mower. When the mower’s working correctly, it does a great job of chopping those leaves up and sucking them into the lawnmower bag so we can put them on our compost pile. On Friday, we took it in to ______’s Lawnmower Sales and Service. The word “Lawnmower” is right in the name of his shop. But do you think they would take our lawn mower in to repair? Why, don’t be silly! After Halloween, Frank only works on snow blowers. Sorry, suckers! After we dragged our lawnmower back to our house, Ed called another repair shop. You know what they told him? Same thing…they just don’t do repairs on lawnmowers right now. When our neighbor started his lawnmower up on Saturday, Ed was green with envy and got out the old leaf blower instead.

I guess we had a good Thanksgiving. Better than last year, anyway. Last year, Mom died on Monday and we were waiting to have her funeral on Saturday so that all our relatives could come. It was a horrible Thanksgiving. I had trouble finding anything at all to be thankful for, but we have some wonderful church members bring us a Thanksgiving dinner and some Thanksgiving crafts for the girls to do on that long, long Thanksgiving day. It seems very strange to write that this year, Thanksgiving was okay. There is still a big hole in our family; a gaping wound; a huge sense of loss; an empty space where our mom belongs. It is a hard feeling to describe, and I don’t know if that feeling will ever go away.

The house is quiet; Ed and the girls are in bed and it’s time I go to bed, too. Only two more days of NaBloPoMo…I wonder what I’ll come up to write about tomorrow!?! Until then….
