The first time she washed my hair, the back of my shirt got soaked. Fortunately, I was just going home after my hair cut.
After that, every time I went to get my hair cut, she washed my hair first.
And oh, what a hair washer she was!
Janet and I didn’t really chit-chat while my hair was being washed. I just lay back with my head in the tub, closed my eyes, and relaxed.
Janet did more than just make sure my hair was clean for its cut. Getting my hair washed by her was like getting a mini massage. She took her time, used shampoo, conditioner and a rinse, and made the whole experience wonderful. I relished those hair cuts, which did not take place very often.
Unfortunately, hair washing is not a very lucrative occupation. The last two times I went to get my hair cut, she wasn’t there. Since she was pregnant, I wondered if Janet was at home on maternity leave.
Alas, she had decided that washing hair just couldn’t pay the bills.
I’m thinking that she will be just as successful at the next job she finds.

Greetings from Canada! I apologize if I don’t come to comment on your blog this week — I will visit you as soon as I can!
This made me think of the last time I went to get a haircut! As I leaned my head back into the tub, the hairdresser asked me about myself: Was I married? How many kids did I have? Upon hearing that I have 4, she said, "Oh!" and immediately slowed the hair-washing process. She probably took 5 minutes longer than she needed to, and it was divine.
Ha! I'm always afraid I'll be verbal during those little mini massages. Because, YES, they feel good. (And guarantee a better tip.)
I wish it felt the same way when we washed our own hair, don't you?
as a kid, I hated this part of haircuts, because as a little girl trying to sit in that curvy wash basin, I never fit and it was super uncomfortable. But now that I'm an adult…now that my head and neck fit! Now it is my favorite part. 🙂
Ahhhh…..this really is one of life's simple pleasures.
Oh, I LOVE getting my hair washed at the stylist's. I almost fall asleep every time!
It really is too bad that jobs like Awesome Hair Washer don't pay more… because people who rock those jobs are artists!
Ohhh, yes. It's the heart, the effort in which we pour into our work that makes it what it is. Wonderful BPM, Ginny!
This makes me want to go get my hair washed. It has been 20 years since I last had my hair washed at a salon and I miss it. I just have been cutting my own hair, but I wish I could have it professionally washed for that head massage that is included in it 🙂
The first thing they say when I walk into the hairdressers is: be careful with her: she squeeks! And massage? Torture more like…
Isn't that the best part of getting our hair done!
I love getting my hair washed, which is strange since I'm not keen on being touched by strangers. Hope you guys are having a great summer!
ahhh so simple but so nice!Enjoy your break!
