It’s been a week since I last dug my toes into the sandy beach and watched my kids play in the waves. I love the beach!
I love hearing the waves wash up on the shore. I love sitting under my beach umbrella reading a book. I love walking on the beach, looking for treasures among the rocks. This year we found some sea glass and a really big dead fish. I didn’t love that so much.
I love watching my kids have best time ever playing on the beach, building sand castles, pretending they are mermaids, and jumping in the waves.
One day the water will be as smooth as glass and you can see schools of silvery minnows darting this way and that. The next day the water can be choppy and rough, boogie board ready. I spent so much time among the waves that my fingers turned into prunes. The water was gorgeous and warm, something that you can’t take for granted in the Great Lakes.
There are things I don’t like about the beach, however. I don’t like getting too much sun, even when we tried to be careful and reapplied the sunscreen. It’s not fun taking off your swimsuit in the bathroom and having clumps of sand falling to the floor. It’s been a week since we left, and I’m still finding sand in Lily’s hair.
The worst part about the beach? Leaving.

We just went to the beach again today and still one of my favorite parts of the summer, too. Oh and like you cleaning up sand afterwards not so much, but still can’t help but love beach even with sand cleanup.

You’re right, even with the mess sand makes I still love the beach!

I think the last time I went to a proper beach and did the sunbathing and the swimming bit must have been in 1991. A lifetime ago!! And even though I live close to the sea here, there is no beach that close by!!

1991 does seem like a lifetime ago! You can see the sea from your house, can’t you? With a view like that, you don’t need a beach!

I haven’t swum in an actual lake in a long time. While I enjoy it, my biggest problem is not being able to see without my contacts in. Which I guess is also the reason I don’t got to the pool often. 🙂

I usually wear my prescription sunglasses when I swim, or just go blind and swim anyway!

Looks heavenly….glad you had a nice time.
We are working on a beach trip but having trouble getting reservations anywhere!
Shoot, I hope you find something! It was such a great week, and very relaxing!

Ah… love those pics!! And I do agree with all the beauty and joy there is to experience at the beach… the water is always so heavenly- waves or stillness.
And oh, that SAND!! I absolutely hate it. It’s so pretty to look at and feel… but it gets EVERYWHERE! And you just can’t NOT get sunburned now matter hard much block you put on… I get it.

Fortunately my daughters were already brown and didn’t get burned at all! It was just me and my husband. Oh, well.

Leaving is certainly the worst part. We went for three nights last month and we were planning a longer trip for this month but the dates got screwy. And I’m trying to imagine fall getting here and me regretting missing that last trip to the beach!
I simply have to go.

Yes, go! You don’t even need a reason to go to the beach! I’m jealous that you are going again this summer. *sigh*
